  • Use  KMJ if the typestyle is the same size
  • Use KJM if the middle initial is larger than the left and right initials.  The left initial is the first name inital, the middle initial is the last name initial, and the right initial is the middle name initial.

Married Woman = Alicia Jenson Knoxworth

  • Use  AJK if the typestyle is the same size
  • Use AKJ if the middle initial is larger than the left and right initials.  The left initial is the first name initial, the middle is the last name initial, and the right initial is the middle name initial.

Married Couple

  • The wife's first name initial is always on the left, the husband's first name initial is on the right and their last name is in the middle.  Example:   Margo and John Young   MYJ



  • Correct: Seasons Greetings from The Smiths
  • Not Correct:  Seasons Greetings from The Smith's
  • Correct: Come to the Thompsons' Easter Egg Hunt
  • Not Correct: Come to the Thompson's Easter Egg Hunt
  • Correct:  Party is at Jim Thompson's Cabin



  • Add an "s" to the end to make it plural  Example: Marley is Marleys and Donotello is Donotellos


WHEN NAMES END IN "S", "X", "Z", "SH" or "CH"

  • Add an "es" to the end
    • Bilox = Biloxes
    • Rich = Riches
    • Walbash = Walbashes
    • Fernandez =  Fernandezes
    • Kloss = Klosses


  • In many cases using "The Smith Family" is not only appropriate, but it looks and reads better.
  • If you want to list the children, it's best to list the father's name, the mother's name, and then the children's names in birth order.

  • When titles do not apply, the Wife's name always comes first:

  • When titles are used, the person with a title in his or her name goes first regardless of sex.
